Rebates for your home

High-efficiency products use less energy and can save you money. Rebates for energy efficiency upgrades are available to all current residential Nicor Gas customers. Participation is simple.

  1. Find a contractor. All products must be installed by a professional contractor unless noted. Air sealing, insulation and duct sealing work must be completed by approved contractors.
  2. Install new, qualifying products between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018.
  3. Apply within 90 days of installation or by January 31, 2019, whichever comes first, to receive the following rebates.

Furnaces

  • Only residential-sized boilers with an input capacity of < 300 MBTUH are eligible.

Air sealing and insulation rebates

Air sealing

Up to $400

$0.40 per CFM50 reduction, up to $400
Additional qualifications
  • Air sealing, insulation and duct sealing work must be performed by an energySMART approved contractor to be eligible for a rebate.

Attic insulation

Up to $300

$0.30 per sq. ft.
Additional qualifications
  • Attic air sealing must be completed to BPI standards to qualify for an attic insulation rebate.
  • A home’s existing attic insulation may not exceed R19 (roughly 6 inches).
  • Rebates are not available if the precondition is >R19.

Duct sealing

$2 per CFM25 reduction, up to $500
Additional qualifications
  • A minimum of 50 percent of the ducts must be located in an unconditioned space, or 70 percent of the ducts must be located in semi-conditioned space.

Wall insulation

Up to $400

$0.50 per sq. ft., up to $400
Additional qualifications
  • Wall insulation areas include exterior walls, knee walls and skylights.
  • Wall insulation is not available as a stand-alone rebate. To be eligible for a rebate, one of the following must be met:
    • The project includes qualifying air sealing.
    • Air sealing and attic insulation has been previously completed through the Nicor Gas and ComEd Home Energy Savings Program and no major renovation has been undertaken since that time.
  • A home’s existing wall insulation may not exceed R5.
  • Rebates are not available if the precondition is greater R5.
  • Walls must then be insulated to at least R13, or in compliance with state or local code, whichever is higher.
$0.50 per sq. ft., up to $400
Additional qualifications
  • Foundation insulation areas include foundation sidewalls.
  • Wall insulation is not available as a stand-alone rebate. To be eligible for a rebate, one of the following must be met:
    • The project includes qualifying air sealing.
    • Air sealing and attic insulation has been previously completed through the Nicor Gas and ComEd Home Energy Savings Program and no major renovation has been undertaken since that time.
  • A home’s existing wall insulation may not exceed R5.
  • Rebates are not available if the precondition is greater R5.
  • Walls must then be insulated to at least R13, or in compliance with state or local code, whichever is higher.
